Get paid for your handwriting

Software that reads handwriting has to learn from real handwriting, written by many different people. GoKuna pays adults for short handwriting samples: two phrases written in your own hand and photographed flat in good light. Each accepted sample pays $8.00 per accepted sample and takes about 5 minutes.

Why AI needs your handwriting

Handwriting recognition turns a photo of handwritten text into text a computer can use: forms, notes, letters, labels. Every person writes a little differently, in letter shapes, slant, spacing and pressure. A model only learns to read that variety if it has seen it.

That is why samples from many ordinary writers matter more than a few perfect ones. Your normal, everyday hand is the useful thing.

What the task asks for

The brief gives you two short phrases. You write them in your own hand on paper, then photograph the page flat in good light. The phrases contain nothing personal, so you are never asked to write your name, address or anything about yourself.

Each accepted sample pays $8.00 per accepted sample. The task takes about 5 minutes, most of it spent getting a clean photo.

Writing the sample

Copy the phrases exactly as the brief gives them, word for word, including punctuation. Write the way you normally write. Use a pen that leaves a clear, dark line on plain or lined paper, and leave some space around the words.

If you make a mistake, start again on a fresh sheet rather than crossing out. A clean sample is easier to review and more useful to the model.

Photographing it so it passes review

Lay the paper on a flat surface. Hold the phone directly above it, parallel to the page, so the lines are not skewed. Daylight from a window works well; avoid your own shadow falling across the page and avoid glare from a lamp directly overhead.

Make sure both phrases are fully in the frame and sharp. Use the preview before you upload and zoom in: if you cannot read every letter easily, take the photo again.

Mistakes that get a sample rejected

Most rejections come from the photo, not the handwriting. The usual ones: part of a phrase cut off at the edge of the frame, the page shot at an angle so the lines slope, a shadow or glare across the words, or a blurred image from a moving hand.

The rest come from the words. A missing word, a changed word, or extra writing on the page means the sample no longer matches the brief. Check the phrases against the brief once before you photograph them and once more in the preview. When a sample is rejected, the reason tells you which one it was.

Review and payment

Every sample is reviewed by a person against the brief, usually within 24 hours, and the decision is emailed to you. An accepted sample earns the reward shown when you reserved it. A rejected one comes with the reason, and you can submit again while the task is open.

Payouts go through Stripe to your own verified bank account, in over 100 countries. There is no fee and no minimum payout. Once a payment is sent, it usually reaches your bank within a few business days.

Handwriting is one of several short tasks you can do on a phone. Object videos: $5.00 per accepted clip. Audio: $6.00 per accepted set. Document photos: $8.00 per accepted sample. First-person video: $10.00 per accepted clip. Long-form video: $20.00 per accepted hour. In-person sessions: $50.00 per session.

Each task states its reward and requirements before you reserve it, so you can mix and match the ones that suit your time and your space.

Do I need good handwriting to get paid?

The task asks for your own handwriting, legible enough to read. It is not a calligraphy test. What gets a sample rejected is usually a blurred photo or words that do not match the brief.

Can I write in cursive?

Write in your own hand as the brief asks. If a brief needs a particular style, it says so.

Do I have to write anything personal?

No. The phrases are given in the brief and contain nothing personal.

Is it paid per word or per page?

Per sample: $8.00 per accepted sample. A page with both phrases is one sample.

Do I need a scanner?

No. A phone photo taken flat in good light is what the task asks for.
